Dominica, a small, fertile island country in the Antilles, in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is a mountainous country with natural hot springs and tropical rainforests. To the west Dominica’s capital Roseau is situated which is full of colorful timber houses and botanical gardens. The country is located between Guadeloupe in France and Marie-Galante in the north, and between Martinique in the south. Since independence in 1978, the country has been a member of the Commonwealth. The northernmost population of the Windward Islands is approximately 75,000. Their spoken languages are English (official) and has French based Antilles Creole.
Primary education in public schools is free. There are many secondary schools, a normal college, a medical school, a nursing school, and a branch of the University of the West Indies.
